Most people in Blue Hill and near by towns know Sergei. He's the Russian who
came in 1990, raised his daughter Sasha and builds beautiful affordable
houses. He frequents art galleries, concerts, museums and fishes in summer
and in winter. Sergei and Sasha can be found casting for stripers or jigging for
mackerel from the boat. Sergei and Sasha have even been ice fishing with two
pet goats.
In the Soviet Union Sergei worked as an oceanographer, taught school and
was in the army. Now his friends say that he is more American than they are,
except for the accent.
Sergei usually builds one house a year and sells it when it's done, or,
lately, before it's finished. Sergei's houses are
graceful and easy to heat.
